USB flash drive: Technical device.

USB flash drives are typically removable and rewritable, and physycally much smaller than an optical disc. USB flash drives are often used for the same purposes for which floppy disks or CD-ROMs were used: for storage, back-up and transfer of computer files.
They are smaller, faster, have thousands of time more capacity, and more durable and reliable because they have no moving parts.

A flash drive consists of a small printed circuit board carrying the circuit elements and a USB connector, insulated electrically and protected inside a plastic, metal or rubberized case which can be carried in a pocket or on a key chain, for example.
USB flash drives were invented be Amir Ban, Dov Moran and Oron Ogdan, all of the Israeli company M-Systems, in April, 1999. Trek Technology and IBM began selling the first USB flash drives commercially in 2000. Trek Technology sold a model under the brand name "ThumbDrive", and IBM marketed the first such in North America with its producted named the "DiskOnKey".

These portable devices have emerged as the storage device of choice for millions of users and have replaced previous drives. The frequent travelers, mobile workers, academics, students and other professionals can easily carry this data storage devices from place to place. One of the characteristics that increase their success is the quality of grasp-release; files can be transferred from the device to the PC and vice versa.

The USB flash drives is very useful for me, transported photos, files, and especially music. Another use is to transport give presentations to high school among other works.
